SweChat
Encrypted messaging where you can verify who you are talking to, and where the data stays in Sweden.
Why it exists
Fraud through messaging apps has become one of the most common crimes against people in Sweden. Someone pretends to be a child, a bank or a buyer on a second hand market, and the app offers no way to check. At the same time, the apps most people use store and route data outside the EU, under laws that Swedish users cannot influence.
SweChat answers both problems at once. Messages, calls and files are encrypted end to end on your device. Identity can be verified with BankID, so a verified card in the chat means a real person with a real Swedish identity. Every server stands in Sweden.
Verified identity, without storing your name
BankID verification is optional. When you choose it, SweChat issues a signed card that you can share in a chat. The legal name returned by BankID is shown once and never stored on our servers; only a hash remains, so nobody can read a list of who uses SweChat.
For whom
- People: families, clubs, and anyone buying or selling second hand who wants to know who is on the other side.
- Businesses: teams that handle personal data under GDPR, such as law firms, housing companies, care providers and advisers.
- Public sector: municipalities, agencies and civil defence bodies that need a Swedish alternative with Swedish hosting.
Where it stands
Today, SweChat is in testing. The table below is generated from the same status file the SweChat site uses, so it is never out of date between the two.
Next: public App Store and Mac releases, Android, paid Royal subscriptions, group calls and disappearing messages. Vision: verified business accounts, more identity issuers such as Freja eID, and dedicated Swedish instances for organisations.
